Tea Time is a new addition to the cuisine at Salty’s in Seattle
and Portland but its origin goes back to about 1850 in Britain. A
woman of nobility – Anna, Duchess of Bedford – found herself
hungry between lunch and dinner which was served in those days about
eight or nine o’clock at night. To stave off her hunger pangs,
she began having afternoon tea with a light meal of bite-sized sandwiches,
tea scones and pastries. Soon she began inviting her high-society
friends to join her.
Thus began afternoon tea, a custom that has found its way into fine
restaurants and hotels all around the world and has inspired all manner
of specialty tearooms. Happily, Tea Time has come to all Salty’s
in Seattle and Portland, Oregon. It’s a wonderful experience
for our guests, including children, with an extensive menu featuring
a wide variety of world-class teas, hors d’oeuvres, aperitifs,
light sandwiches and pastries. You could even think of it as a late
lunch.
Our world-renowned loose-leaf teas are supplied by Queen Mary Teas,
operator of the oldest tearoom west of the Mississippi River (see
more at www.queenmarytea.com).
Choices for Salty’s Tea Time run the gamut: red, white, black
and other teas from exotic lands such as Sri Lanka (Ceylon), India
and China.
It is an exciting new adventure at Salty’s for tea aficionados
and food lovers. The petits fours, delicate tea sandwiches, canapés,
soupçons, cookies and pastries that accompany our portfolio
of tea choices are all the unique creations of chefs in our own kitchens
and bakeries. See links above for our Tea Time menus. Tea Time lasts
from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. See links above for our Tea Time menus and hours. Make your Tea Time
