Shellfish FestivalCome get your paws on our claws! As winter gives way to spring, Salty’s is geared up for our “Be Shellfish, Eat Me!” Festival. This fabulous Shellfish Festival celebrates our favorite crusty crustaceans – lobster, prawns and shrimp (the crabby Dungeness fellow has its own festival – “You Crack Me Up” Crab Festival). Lobster lovers from Seattle, Des Moines, Kent, Tacoma, Federal Way, Redondo Beach to Portland, Oregon, all converge at Salty’s Seafood Grills to pay homage to these crabby crustaceans by feasting on mouthwatering Maine lobster, prawns and shrimp during our “Be Shellfish, Eat Me” Festival. We all know and love Maine lobster, but even local Northwest foodies often ask what is a prawn and what is a shrimp. Hmmmm, a prawn is a prawn unless we call it a shrimp and then sometimes a shrimp is called a prawn. It’s all so confusing. The term we use often depends on were you live. Some believe that it is size that matters, with shrimp being the smaller variety. Even though we use the terms interchangeably, there actually is a difference between prawns and shrimp. The difference is in their gill structure, the way they brood their eggs and the size of their pincers. It all gets rather technical and the most important detail is that it doesn’t matter what you call them, just call them delicious! The star of Salty’s “Be Shellfish, Eat Me” Festival is the Maine lobster. We have our lobsters shipped here live, direct from the icy waters off the coast of Maine. It doesn’t get any fresher! And, don’t be fooled by the fakes . . . there are numerous wannabes riding on the fame of the authentic Maine lobster which is a true lobster. The rock, spiny, slipper and Caribbean lobsters have no claws and their edible meat comes only from their tail. Maine lobster is a true culinary delight with its sweet delicious flavor and tender texture. Although lobster aficionados are divided in their preferences for tail meat versus claw meat, everyone agrees that live Maine lobster is a delicacy not to be missed. When shellfish season approaches, Salty’s chefs create your favorite lobster dishes from Australian Rock Lobster Tails to fresh Maine Lobster in the shell. Lobster soups. Salads. Pastas, appetizers and more. If it’s lobster you’re looking for, we’ve got it! So many dishes, so many choices. While lobster, prawns and shrimp may take center stage during Salty's Shellfish Festival, seafood lovers will still find their favorite oysters, scallops, crab and other fresh fish dishes on our menu. And, if you're in the mood for a great steak, we've got a selection of beef dishes sure to please your palette. In addition, at Salty’s Seafood Grills, we partner our seafood dishes with select wines and outstanding craft brews.
