Oyster Festival

The end of summer comes with one consolation – fall and Salty's "Aw Shucks!" Amorous Oyster Festival. Our Pacific Northwest oyster festival is a very popular fall event. Each September, October and November, Salty's Seafood Grills attract gourmet food lovers from Seattle, Des Moines, Kent, Tacoma, Federal Way, Redondo Beach, Vancouver, Washington and Portland, Oregon, to celebrate their favorite aphrodisiac – oysters! Pacific oysters, Kumamoto oysters, European Flat oysters, and Olympia oysters all make an appearance during our annual festival.

The old notion that oysters should only by eaten in months with an “r” in them (September, October, November, etc.) is a myth that may have originated from the days when oysters were shipped without adequate refrigeration and could spoil. This isn’t true today. Even though we celebrate the oyster in the fall at Salty's Seafood Grills, oysters can be enjoyed year round as we provide our guests with firm, flavorful oysters from cool waters/farms.

Of course, the oyster tops our menu during the "Aw Shucks!" Amorous Oyster Festival. We may serve them up fried, stewed, roasted, barbecued or if you are a purist and you like them in the buff, you can get them raw on the half shell. We serve them just about any way you like them! Each year our chefs create new and wonderful dishes to showcase this Northwest delicacy. Traditionally, oysters are paired with champagne. At Salty’s Seafood Grills, we also partner our oysters with select, light wines and outstanding craft brews.

Pacific, Kumamoto, European Flat and Olympia oysters may all take center stage during Salty's Oyster Festival. But, seafood lovers will still find their favorite clam, scallop, prawn, crab and fresh fish dishes on our menu. It is clear that oysters are a nutritious delicacy treasured by many. Over the millennia, oysters have been loved by the ancient Greeks and North American Indians alike. Oysters were so prized by the Romans, they paid for them by their weight on gold!
